4-H and Youth

Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) Camp

July 23-28, 2017

State Contact: Jen Robertson-Honaker

Program:
4-H members will participate in activities that introduce a wide range of STEM focused fields and careers. Past activities have included: visits to the WVU Planetarium, Science-In-Action on the WVU zip line canopy tour and rock climbing wall, forensic investigations, visits to WVU research labs, as well as experiments and activities that explore chemistry, energy, motion, electricity, magnesium, optics, and nanoscience.

Camp is designed to be fun and engaging, however youth should come prepared to spend the majority of each day in interactive and hands-on STEM curriculum and to demonstrate safe and appropriate behavior while in the laboratory or when participating in the climbing wall and zip line activities.

Purpose:
STEM Camp is a science immersive camp that provides 4-H members with hands-on experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math to better understand these fields and their place in our lives. Campers get to experience STEM in action in the research labs of WVU while working in teams to find unique and creative solutions to real-world problems. The camp allows youth to see what it’s like to attend college as they work on campus with real-life scientists and engineers and live and eat in an actual WVU residence hall. STEM Camp
