Northeast 4-H Citizenship Forum

PURPOSE: 4-H Citizenship is the knowledge, skills, attitudes and motivation that give youth the capacity to move beyond one’s individual self-interest and to be committed to the well-being of some larger group. This forum is designed to give youth/adult partnership terms tools to promote civic engagement and meaningful community service through the 4-H Citizenship Initiatives.

WHO: Participants should be in grades 7 through 11( 12th graders are welcome if they have a way to give back to your state after the experience.) Teams should consist of one adult with 2 to 4 youth.

WHEN: January 14-16, 2012

WHERE: National 4-H Center – Chevy Chase, MD and Washington, DC

PROGRAM OFFERINGS: The program consists of workshops and speakers on citizenship and community service. All participants will receive training and materials to set up high quality service learning experiences back in their communities as well as civic engagement events.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS: Include a service plunge for teams on Sunday afternoon to provide help to local D.C. and MD organizations who are part of the MLK Serve America programs that weekend, all participants learning how to design service programs and civic engagement events, all participants getting a chance to design, participate and lead reflection activities, a special tour of the city that provides insight into civic engagement and the meaning behind the places visited, recreation that promotes team building that can also be used back home and an opportunity to experience some special events that are part of the MLK celebrations that weekend.

REGISTRATION FEES:
$250.00 – Full Conference Package – includes 2 nights dorm lodging, Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast, lunch & dinner, Monday breakfast, transportation to events in the city, and program components.

REFUND POLICY:
Request for refunds must be made in writing and faxed or postmarked to: Lindsey Kalivoda-Hartley, 4-H Program Event Coordinator at: 618 Knapp Hall, PO Box 6031, Morgantown, WV 26506-6031 by January 9, 2012. NO REFUNDS will be made for no-shows. (There is a $20 refund processing fee. No refunds will be made for amounts less than $20 after deduction of the processing fees.)
